Andrew Edge and Hannah Slarks secure high-profile settlement for ex-President of NUS who claimed she was dismissed for manifesting “anti-Zionism”

Cases

Andrew and Hannah were instructed by Shaima Dallali, the ex-president of the National Union of Students.

Ms Dallali was dismissed by NUS in 2022, facing allegations of anti-Semitism.  She brought a claim alleging that her dismissal and the way that NUS otherwise treated her were unlawful. In particular, she alleged that this treatment was discrimination because she manifested her protected anti-Zionist beliefs and that she was unfairly dismissed for reasons related to her political opinions.  The multi-day trial was due to begin this week.  However, Ms Dallali was pleased to announce that NUS agreed to a confidential settlement.

The case has garnered national interest in the press – see articles in The Times, The Guardian and The Independent.

Andrew Edge and Hannah Slarks acted for Ms Dallali, instructed by Carter Ruck and Bindmans.
