James Goudie KC and Ronnie Dennis act for Coventry City Council in Sky Blue Sports & Leisure Ltd v Coventry City Council (No. 2), a State Aid challenge which is due to be heard on 2 and 3 May 2018, in which the Court of Appeal on 1 December 2017 gave its reasons for its rulings delivered on 28 November 2017. The issue is whether a lease extension of the Ricoh Arena granted by the Council as part of a deal with Wasps Rugby Club constitutes State Aid or whether it is compatible with the market Economy Investor Principle. The Court has allowed amendment of pleadings and the introduction of expert evidence.
