R (Gill) v Cabinet Office, [2019] EWHC 3407 (Admin): Judicial review challenge to plans for the next census, on grounds alleging illegality in the inclusion of “Sikhs” as a specific tick box response option under religion but not under ethnicity. The case was dismissed on grounds of Parliamentary privilege, on the basis that it would interfere with Parliament’s function to make an order the effect of which was to constrain the ability of a Minister to lay a statutory instrument before Parliament, and on the basis that the claim was bought prematurely.
