Julian Blake acts in Panorama immigration detention challenge

Cases

Julian Blake appeared in the application for permission for judicial review in relation to allegations of mistreatment at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre, which was the subject of a Panorama Programme entitled Undercover: Britain’s Immigration Secrets.

The Claimants are claiming that the procedural obligations under Article 3 of the ECHR require an effective new independent inquiry. The Secretary of State argues that route of redress already available to the Claimants, taken together with the broader investigations and inquiries that have been instituted, are sufficient to meet the Article 3 procedural requirements.

Holman J granted permission in respect of this aspect of the Claimants’ claims and a substantive hearing will be heard in October 2018.
