On 15th December 2022 a fatal crushing incident occurred at the 02 Academy Brixton, since when the Venue has remained closed by order of Lambeth Council.
On 15th September, following a 2 day hearing, the Licensing Sub-Committee permitted it to re-open. The application was opposed by the Metropolitan Police who also sought revocation of the licence. The Sib-Committee heard supportive evidence from Michael Kill the CEO of the Night Time industries Association, Mark Dayd the CEO of the Music Venues Trust and Dan Davies the Chair of Institute of Licensing.
