Touching on each of the stages of litigation in the QICDRC, the speakers will provide practical tips for success in the common-law style courts – from the pleadings through disclosure and witness statements, to trial, costs, enforcement and appeals.
The seminar is designed to be accessible to in-house counsel and litigators who primarily appear in the Qatari on-shore courts and in arbitral proceedings, as well as being informative for practitioners more familiar with other common-law-style jurisdictions in the Middle East.

Speaker biographies:
Salman Al-Ansari: Salman is one of Qatar’s foremost commercial lawyers, and his experience spans the corporate, securities, finance, real estate, construction, IP and dispute resolution fields. He is frequently involved in matters with state-level ramifications, most notably during Qatar’s 2022 World Cup. He has advised multinational technology and communications companies on all aspects of their Qatari operations, and has acted on major acquisitions in these and other sectors. He is also active on disputes, including high-stakes litigation and international arbitration in the construction and oil and gas sectors. Salman serves as president of the Qatar Players Association, the first football union in the country.
Sonia Barber: Sonia is an internationally recognized lawyer and Senior Of-Counsel with Al-Ansari & Associates. Sonia has practiced in the Middle East for more than 20 years, advising clients on all facets of their operations. Prior to her current role, Sonia was Group General Counsel for a member of Qatar’s ruling family’s holding company, and prior to that a partner for many years with the global law firm, where she assisted clients from the Gulf region, as well as outside of the Gulf, to access large-scale projects.
Umar Azmeh: is the Registrar of the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre. Prior to taking up his role, he practised first as a barrister, latterly cross-qualifying as a solicitor at a large international firm. Umar also practised within government, working for the Attorney General of England and Wales. He latterly acted for high net-worth individuals in civil and criminal investigations just prior to his arrival in Doha. Alongside is work, Umar is undertaking a doctorate at the University of Oxford.
Tom Ogg: Tom is a barrister at 11KBW, a chambers in London. He is a trial advocate and adviser who is instructed in commercial and regulatory cases, particularly those with an employment-related angle. He is ranked by the Legal 500 as a Senior Junior for the English Bar in the Middle East in Commercial matters. He has acted in a number of QICDRC cases and is DIFC Registered.
