The Lawyer has released their Top 10 Appeals for 2025 which features R (Duke of Sussex) v Secretary of State for the Home Department. The appeal is due to be heard for 2 days in the Court of Appeal from 8 April 2025.
The case involves Prince Harry’s challenge to the level of his publicly funded personal security following his decision to step back from Royal duties in 2020. Following the dismissal of his judicial review by Sir Peter Lane in February 2024, the Court of Appeal granted limited permission to appeal. The appeal asserts that the decision was unlawful in that it did not follow policy and that he was treated differently to others.
