11KBW are delighted to announce that Jaizzail Ofori has been awarded the 2024 11KBW Scholarship for black students on the Bar course.

Jaizzail will receive an award of £30,000 towards tuition fees and maintenance, mentoring from members of 11KBW, and a guaranteed assessed mini-pupillage at 11KBW.

Jaizzail obtained a First in his undergraduate degree at City, University of London, before obtaining a Distinction in his LLM in International Corporate and Commercial Law at King’s College London. He has also volunteered at the Citizens Advice Bureau and worked at Fenwick Elliott LLP, the Serious Fraud Office and in-house at several construction firms and consultancies. He intends to practice at the Commercial Bar.

Jaizzail was selected from an exceptional field of candidates by a panel which included members of 11KBW’s Pupillage and Tenancy Committee and two external assessors, Dr Maggie Semple OBE and Paul McFarlane.

Jane McCafferty KC, Chair of 11KBW’s Equality and Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, said: “We are delighted to announce Jaizzail as this year’s 11KBW scholar and wish him, and all the shortlisted candidates, every success in what we are sure will be stellar careers at the Bar.”

Joint Head of Chambers, Daniel Stilitz KC, said: “We congratulate Jaizzail on winning the 11KBW scholarship, which reflects his outstanding talent as a lawyer. All our shortlisted candidates were exceptionally able advocates, and we wish them every success in the next stage of their careers.”

The 11KBW Scholarship was established as a focused and practical response to the continued underrepresentation of black applicants, pupils and barristers at the Bar. Full details of the scholarship are available at our dedicated scholarship website. The 2022 winner, Kir West-Hunter, is currently a pupil barrister at 6KBW College Hill. The 2023 winner, Yaade Joba, is currently studying on the Bar Course and will then begin the BCL course at Oxford University.
